Fabulous
rhinestone jewelry: This is the stuff that started the costume
jewelry rage. At the beginning of the 20th century the European
and American financial economy was dreadful and people who could buy
"real" jewelry were few. Along came the rhinestones and
as the big-time designers were starving, the use of glass and plastic was born. Because the really big names didn't want to be associated with
"junk" jewelry, no one would admit to being involved. But as the craze caught on and
people loved their
rhinestones; the more outrageous the better, the race was on!
Trifari, Boucher, Mazer, etc., designed and manufactured jewelry that
now is 80 years old and STILL looks real.
These pages contain clear rhinestone pieces that have a
bit of an attitude.
